Venezuelan delegate reads book as Trump speaks

One of the Venezuelan delegates present at the United Nations General Assembly decided to ignore President Donald Trump’s speech before the body Tuesday.

As Trump criticized the “socialism” of the Venezuelan government and accused it of abuses, the delegate picked up a hardback book about Simón Bolívar, Venezuelan military and political leader, and began to read it.

The book appeared to be titled “Bolívar heroe, genio y pensamiento universal,” which roughly translates to “Bolívar hero, genius and universal thinking.”

Video of the assembly shows her flipping through the pages as Trump spoke.

The Trump administration has taken a hard line against the Venezuelan government and in support of opposition leader Juan Guaido amid a political, economic and humanitarian crisis in the country.

Trump talked in his speech about Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro being a “dictator” and “a Cuban puppet protected by Cuban bodyguards.”

“To the Venezuelans trapped in this nightmare, please know that all of America is united behind you,” he said.
